Participant Information

What is the SILVER-AMI study?

Attention:

  • Enrollment must occur during the hospitalization for a heart attack.
  • Enrollment is by invitation only. We cannot accept volunteers.

SILVER-AMI is a research study that is collecting information to help predict recovery of older persons after a heart attack.

Who can participate?

Men and women ages ≥75 who have been admitted to the hospital for a heart attack.

Why should I participate?

By participating in SILVER-AMI, you will become a part of this important national effort to understand the effect of heart attacks on older persons. We plan to use this information to help doctors predict recovery. Our goal is to help people in the future make better decisions about their care.

What can I expect?

Participation is completely voluntary and will not affect your care.

As a participant you will have:

  • An interview in the hospital.

While you are in the hospital, we will ask you questions about you and about what happened. We will also collect information from your medical records.

  • A survey in the mail.

After you are discharged, you will be mailed a short 5-minute survey asking about your experience after leaving the hospital.

  • A 6-month telephone interview.

About 6 months later, you will be contacted by the Yale Follow-up Center for one phone interview to ask about your recovery. This will take about 30 minutes. We will also collect medical records from any additional hospital visits.

It’s good to know that I can help make a difference for other patients like me. I wanted to know more about what my life would be like after bypass and if surgery was going to help.
